Student Paper Competition
The Student Paper Competition is now open!
The Canadian Association of Road Safety Professionals (CARSP) Young Professionals’ Committee is excited to hosting a student paper competition sponsored by Western Ergonomics. Students, including post-docs, actively registered in a Canadian university or college can submit papers on any road safety topic. Authors of the top three papers will receive complimentary conference registration and the following monetary awards:
- $1000 for first place
- $600 for second place
- $400 for third place
Authors must present their papers in person via a slide deck presentation at the conference to receive the monetary award. In addition to these three winners, the two honourable mentions will receive complimentary registration to the conference.

January 31, 2024 | Accepted abstracts are announced |
April 1, 2024 | Submit full papers in your Pheedloop Speaker Portal |
May 1, 2024 | Paper finalists are released. Reviewer comments are provided to authors. |
May 17, 2024 | Finalists submit final papers (if needed, based on reviewer feedback). |
May 31, 2024 | Submit final slide deck presentation. |
Papers should be written and formatted according to 2024 Conference requirements. Authors should indicate whether their paper falls within the Policy and Practice Stream or the Research and Evaluation Stream. Details on past CARSP Conference student paper competitions, including the topics chosen as previous winners, can be found here.
NEW THIS YEAR – Students must submit their paper abstract to the general call for abstracts (deadlines posted above). Previously, students were not required to submit an abstract (only their full paper 2-3 months before the conference). If you would like to submit a paper but do not yet have an abstract ready, please contact Davesh Sharma at davesh1@ualberta.ca.

CARSP Student Travel Award
Western Ergonomics has graciously sponsored the Student Travel Award, which provides financial support for students attending the 2024 CARSP Conference. All students wishing to participate in the conference are eligible for this program. However, preference is given to presenters and those with financial need. More details to follow.
