OF screeners have been around for at least 15 years and its impact to road safety is tantamount in preventing drug impaired driving. Changes to the Criminal Code (Bill C-46) now enables Law Enforcement within Canada to administer the OF testers to detect DUID.

Aims/Objectives: Road impairment continues to remain a problem on Ontario roads. A recent CAA commissioned study found that almost 2 million Ontario drivers have driven impaired at some point in their lives with over 700,000 have driven in the last 3 months.

Drug Impaired driving is far less understood than alcohol-impaired driving. There is no DUID equivalent to 0.08 BAC and it is currently impossible to define and determine impairment with an illegal limit.

Another common misconception is the number of hours after smoking that is needed prior to getting behind the wheel. What are the benefits & challenges of Oral Fluid compared to alternative matrices. What are the different Cannabinoid analytes and now do they fare in different biological matrices so as to be the best indicator of recent consumption.

Methods/Targets: Policy advocates, researchers, drug enforcement

Results/Activities: Discuss the advantages of screening saliva as a medium of choice, its limitations and legislation. Review Evidence, data, best practices & research from Traffic Safety perspective.

Discussion/Deliverables: Discuss what are the challenges with Oral Fluid screening, their success stories for the last 5 years and their increased

[343,347
365,361,364,368
post-16965","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-carsp-conference-acpser-calgary-2019","category-policy-and-practice","tag-drug-impaired-driving","tag-enforcement","tag-policy-development","tag-risky-driving
["GET
