{"id":18733,"date":"2014-06-18T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-06-18T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carsp.ca\/?p=18733"},"modified":"2022-10-29T22:50:58","modified_gmt":"2022-10-29T22:50:58","slug":"bc-road-safety-strategy-2015-and-beyond","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carsp.ca\/en\/presentations-and-papers\/2014-cmrsc-ccmsr-xxiv-vancouver\/bc-road-safety-strategy-2015-and-beyond\/","title":{"rendered":"BC Road Safety Strategy 2015 and Beyond"},"content":{"rendered":"Author(s): Sam MacLeod, Neil Arason<\/p>\n<h2>Slidedeck Presentation Only (no paper submitted):<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/carsp.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/5A-MacLeod_BC-Road-Safety-Strategy.pdf\">5A MacLeod_BC Road Safety Strategy<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"su-divider su-divider-style-default\" style=\"margin:15px 0;border-width:1px;border-color:#ccc\"><\/div>\n<h2><b>Abstract<\/b>:<\/h2>\n<p>Context<br \/>\nRoad safety is disparate and multi-disciplinary and as such achieving significant and sustained progress depends on many partners working together.\u00a0 In this spirit, the BC Road Safety Strategy, led by the Office of the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles, is the culmination of work by over 30 organizations, both within and outside of government,and five working groups who contributed to it over a two year period.<\/p>\n<p>The strategy contains the vision that British Columbia will have the safest roads in North America and will work toward the ultimate goal of zero traffic fatalities and zero serious injuries.\u00a0 The strategy has been made available to the public and can be accessed at: http:\/\/www.pssg.gov.bc.ca\/osmv\/road-safety\/road-safety-strategy.htm<\/p>\n<p>Objectives<br \/>\nThe objectives of the BC Road Safety Strategy are to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Eliminate deaths and serious injuries from British Columbia\u2019s roads \u2013 creating safe roads and healthy communities;<\/li>\n<li>Support and promote road safety as an overall issue;<\/li>\n<li>Ensure that road safety is communicated in a consistent language;<\/li>\n<li>Promote the safe system approach to road safety and its consistent application;<\/li>\n<li>Ensure that work is underway within each of the major pillars of the safe system (drivers, roads and vehicles);
