This paper presents a proposal for a road safety training model for young people (12-35 years
\nold) through the structure of youth organizations in Costa Rica. These organizations were
\ncreated by Law N\u00b0 8261, called \u2018Ley General de la Persona Joven\u2019 (General Law of the Young
\nPeople). The proposed model was generated from a pilot project conducted in one of Costa
\nRica's cities.
\nThrough \u2018The Committee of Young People\u2019 in the city of San Ram\u00f3n, Costa Rica, road safety
\nworkshops were designed and implemented. 48 young people from state, municipal and civic
\norganizations participated in these workshops. The workshop topics included: presentations on
\nlaw and policy, observations of pedestrian and driver behaviour in the city, outdoor activities to
\ndevelop awareness about difficulties faced by the disabled, testimonies from road accident
\nvictims, drunk driving hazards and the analysis of traffic accident cases.<\/p>\n
