{"id":38282,"date":"2024-04-29T18:12:54","date_gmt":"2024-04-29T18:12:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carsp.ca\/?p=38282"},"modified":"2024-04-29T18:13:48","modified_gmt":"2024-04-29T18:13:48","slug":"road-safety-professional-rsp-certification-recent-news-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carsp.ca\/en\/uncategorized\/road-safety-professional-rsp-certification-recent-news-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Road Safety Professional (RSP) Certification \u2013 Recent News"},"content":{"rendered":"<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This section of the CARSP SNN aims to give our readers the most recent news about the RSP certification by the Transportation Professional Certification Board (TPCB) with a focus on the Canadian perspective.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The TPCB was established in 1998 to provide a mechanism to create and administer professional certifications for those involved in the practice of transportation (<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tpcb.org\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">www.tpcb.org<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-38261\" src=\"https:\/\/carsp.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Picture1-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"76\" height=\"79\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-38262\" src=\"https:\/\/carsp.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Picture2-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"63\" height=\"79\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-38263\" src=\"https:\/\/carsp.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Picture3-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"79\" height=\"78\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-38264\" src=\"https:\/\/carsp.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Picture4-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"79\" height=\"78\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Professional Traffic Operations Engineers (PTOE) certification exams are offered to professionals with expertise and experience in topics such as traffic operational analysis, traffic engineering studies, operational effects of geometric designs, traffic safety, traffic control devices, and social, environmental, and institutional issues.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Professional Transportation Planned (PTP) certification exams are offered to professionals with expertise in topics such as land use and transportation analysis, needs assessment for short- and long-range planning, transportation system planning and evaluation, public policy, environmental analysis, and plan implementation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Road Safety Professional<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Level 1,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (RSP<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) certification exams are offered to professionals who have demonstrated proficiency in the foundations of road safety principles and make decisions or take actions that potentially impact the safety of the travelling public. This includes individuals in the engineering, motor vehicle, behavioural, law enforcement, policy development, and emergency response communities.\u00a0(<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tpcb.org\/certification\/rsp1\/exam-format-and-content\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">https:\/\/www.tpcb.org\/certification\/rsp1\/exam-format-and-content\/<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Road Safety Professional, Level 2<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, (RSP<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) has two specialties:\u00a0 behavioural (RSP<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">B) and infrastructure (RSP<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I). The certification exams are offered to professionals whose primary job functions are directed at improving the safety performance of the surface transportation system. This includes professionals responsible for developing and implementing engineering or behavioural programs aimed at reducing the number of fatalities and injuries due to road crashes. (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tpcb.org\/certification\/road-safety-professional-2\/infrastructure-domains1\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">https:\/\/www.tpcb.org\/certification\/road-safety-professional-2\/infrastructure-domains1\/<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tpcb.org\/certification\/road-safety-professional-2\/exam-format-and-content-behavior-domains\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">https:\/\/www.tpcb.org\/certification\/road-safety-professional-2\/exam-format-and-content-behavior-domains\/<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since the launch of RSP<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> certification exams in 2018 and RSP<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> certification exams in 2019, a <\/span><b>total of 174<\/b> <b>Canadian<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> road safety professionals have been certified by TPCB.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">154 Canadian professionals have been certified as RSP<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with 54 in the public sector and 100 as consultants in private firms.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">13 Canadian professionals have been certified as RSP<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I, with six in the public sector and seven as consultants in private firms.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seven Canadian professionals have been certified as RSP<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">B, with three in the public sector and four as consultants in private firms.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Certification as RSP<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is a prerequisite for taking the RSP<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> proficiency exam.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <\/span><b>total of 1,002 professionals<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are presently certified as <\/span><b>RSP<\/b><b>1<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with 968 of them residing in the USA or Canada, and 34 in India, Japan, Saudi Arabia, New Zealand, or the UAE. Additionally, <\/span><b>159<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> professionals are presently certified as <\/span><b>RSP<\/b><b>2<\/b><b>I<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>35<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> professionals hold the <\/span><b>RSP<\/b><b>2<\/b><b>B<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> certification; all these professionals reside in the USA or Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The next cycle of exams<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will take place in June 2024 followed by October 2024 and February 2025.
