As we begin a new year, I would like to extend my warmest wishes to the CARSP community and reflect on the momentum we continue to build together.<\/p>\n
The 2025 CARSP Conference in Quebec City was a powerful reminder of what makes this organization special. It was a gathering defined by innovation, thoughtful dialogue, and a shared sense of purpose. From the Young Professionals Committee Mentorship Program\u2014where meaningful connections were forged between emerging and established leaders\u2014to the Vision Zero Walkshop that brought road safety to life through the lens of urban design, the conference highlighted the value of learning by doing and learning together.<\/p>\n
Moments like these reinforce the importance of people-centered approaches to road safety. The keynote by Ian Lockwood, in particular, underscored how language, design, and intent shape not only our streets, but our communities. These ideas resonate deeply with CARSP\u2019s mission and with my own professional journey.<\/p>\n
As Road Safety Supervisor for the City of Guelph, and through my academic training in evidence-based speed management, I have seen firsthand the impact that strong partnerships can have. CARSP plays a unique role in bringing together engineering, public health, enforcement, planning, and research\u2014building bridges that translate knowledge into practical, real-world solutions.<\/p>\n
Looking ahead, my priorities as President include advancing equity and inclusive leadership, amplifying youth voices, and strengthening Canada\u2019s contribution to the Global Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021\u20132030. Road safety is a right\u2014not a privilege\u2014and our work must continue to reflect that principle, ensuring safety for all people regardless of age, ability, neighbourhood, or background.<\/p>\n
I am deeply grateful to CARSP\u2019s staff, Board of Directors, volunteers, presenters, and members for your dedication and leadership. Your commitment enables CARSP to remain a trusted national voice and a catalyst for meaningful change.<\/p>\n
I look forward to continuing this important journey with you in the year ahead\u2014through collaboration, thoughtful evaluation, and action that makes our roads safer for everyone.<\/p>\n
