{"id":40698,"date":"2026-03-13T13:02:27","date_gmt":"2026-03-13T13:02:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carsp.ca\/?p=40698"},"modified":"2026-03-13T13:02:27","modified_gmt":"2026-03-13T13:02:27","slug":"mid-career-trailblazer-award-road-safety-research-and-evaluation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carsp.ca\/en\/news\/mid-career-trailblazer-award-road-safety-research-and-evaluation\/","title":{"rendered":"Mid-Career Trailblazer Award &#8211; Road Safety Research and Evaluation"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>Information, Nomination Requirements and Selection Criteria<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The CARSP Mid-Career Research and Evaluation Trailblazer Award for Road Safety is presented annually to individuals who have made a positive impact on road safety in Canada.\u00a0 Candidates are CARSP members who have made a significant contribution to the field of road safety over the past 10-25 years.\u00a0 There are two categories of Trailblazer Awards: Research and Evaluation AND Policy and Practice.\u00a0 This document provides the information for the Research and Evaluation Trailblazer Award only.\u00a0 A separate document has been prepared for the Policy and Practice Trailblazer Award.\u00a0 A person is only eligible for one of these two Mid-Career Trailblazer Awards over his\/her career lifespan.<\/p>\n<h3>Nomination Criteria:<\/h3>\n<h6>The award goes to someone who:<\/h6>\n<ol>\n<li>Has been actively contributing to road safety research and evaluation in the 10-25 years since achieving his\/her last degree or diploma.<\/li>\n<li>Has made a notable contribution to the field of road safety in Canada.<\/li>\n<li>Is a current CARSP member and has been a CARSP member for a minimum of 5 years.<\/li>\n<li>Has contributed to CARSP in some way.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Nominee Information Requirements:<\/h3>\n<h6>There are five types of information requested: a Curriculum Vitae (CV), Impact Statement, Summary for Awards Ceremony, Letters of Support and Nominator Information.<\/h6>\n<h6>I.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Curriculum Vitae (CV)<\/h6>\n<p>(Page Limit: 10 pages)<\/p>\n<p>The CV should include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nominee Name, Current Title, Current Organization, Province\/Territory<\/li>\n<li>Number of Years nominee has served with the current or last organization<\/li>\n<li>List of the positions\/appointments the nominee has held with other road safety organizations, associations, government, or academia, and number of years served with each.<\/li>\n<li>List of publications (e.g. book chapters, peer-reviewed journals, research reports, technical guidelines or other unpublished reports, etc.). If list of publications exceeds 10 pages, please provide the number and types of publications with some examples of each.<\/li>\n<li>H-index using Google Scholar<\/li>\n<li>Conference presentations<\/li>\n<li>Awards received<\/li>\n<li>Mentoring activities (e.g. students in academia; junior work colleagues)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h6>II.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Impact Statement<\/h6>\n<p>(1200-word limit)<\/p>\n<p>This section must outline the extent to which the nominee has created an influential body of research and evaluation work that has had a substantial impact on disciplines associated with the field of road safety, including its use in policy and\/or practice in Canada and\/or internationally, relative to their career stage. For example, contributions to the scientific literature, potential to inform decision making in the road safety field, and development and\/or advancement of methods or theories in road safety.\u00a0 Furthermore, it should include any roles that the nominee may have played in influencing the development and\/or implementation of effective road safety measures and\/or policy.\u00a0 Lastly, if the nominee has been a mentor, formal (i.e. through a program) or informal, this summary should include a description of their role and the impact it had on the recipients of the mentorship.<\/p>\n<p>Please provide your response under the sections below.\u00a0 Please note the suggested word-limits for each section.\u00a0 The word limit for the overall Impact Statement should not exceed the word limit specified above.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Leadership (300 words) - <em>How has the nominee demonstrated leadership within the road safety research and evaluation community (e.g., leading research projects, influencing research directions, or guiding policy through evidence)?<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>Innovation, Impact\/Outcomes and Collaboration with Other Disciplines and\/or Sectors (300 words) - <em>How has the nominee introduced innovative approaches, methods, or technologies in road safety research and\/or evaluation? What measurable impact has the nominee\u2019s research and\/or evaluation work had on improving road safety outcomes, informing policy, and\/or advancing understanding in the field? How has the nominee worked across disciplines or sectors (e.g., engineering, public health, enforcement, education, or technology) to strengthen research and evaluation outcomes?<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>Collaboration with Community Organizations and Other Practitioners \/ Knowledge Translation\/ (300 words) - <em>How has the nominee engaged with community organizations, practitioners, and\/or stakeholders to ensure that research findings are relevant, applicable, and impactful? How has the nominee effectively translated research findings into usable and accessible formats for practitioners, policymakers, and\/or the public?<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>Describe all contributions made to CARSP (200 words)\u00a0 <em>Has the nominee done any of the following:<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><em>Served on any of the following: CARSP Board of Directors, a CARSP committee (i.e., Finance, Structure and Governance, Marketing and Membership and the Young Professionals\u2019 Committee), or on the CARSP Editorial Board (i.e. for the Safety Network Newsletter), <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Participated as any of the following in the CARSP Conference: Keynote Speaker, Panelist, Presenter, or Reviewer, played a key role in securing sponsorship funds or exhibitors for the conference and served on the Conference Organizing Committee. <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Some other role not mentioned above, such as delivering a webinar, promoting CARSP to other road safety practitioners, and\/or acting as a CARSP liaison to another association or organization.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>Mentorship (100 words) - <em>In what ways has the nominee mentored or supported emerging researchers, students, or early-career professionals in road safety?<\/em> <em>Please include a description of their role and the impact it had on the recipients of the mentorship.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h6>III.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Summary for Awards Ceremony<\/h6>\n<p>(300-word limit)<\/p>\n<p>Provide a summary that highlights the key achievements of the nominee.\u00a0 This summary will be used when the award is being presented at the CARSP Conference.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h6>IV.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Letters of Support<\/h6>\n<p>Please have 2-3 letters of support from fellow road safety professionals sent directly from the referee to CARSP by emailing info@carsp.ca.
