These tasks require three main sources of data: geocoded injury data, geometric design and built environment characteristics as well as exposure measures, also referred to as motor-vehicle and bicycle flows, volumes or activity. Bicycle flow data on each facility and network element is an essential component in the calculation of cyclist injury rates (also referred to as risk). Bicycle flows are required to identify routes and corridors with high injury risk or with high bicycle activity. This knowledge will serve as vital information for cities wishing to implement appropriate cycling infrastructure. The main objectives of this study are to estimate and map bicycle volumes, injuries and risk throughout the entire network of road segments and intersections on the island of Montreal, combining smartphone GPS traces and cyclist counts (manual and automatic, short-term (hours) and long-term (months and years)) to then validate the use of GPS data as a potential source of cyclist exposure data. Bayesian methods are applied to the GPS data to map cyclist injuries and risk throughout the entire island of Montreal. Among other results, cyclist risk is greatest outside the central neighbourhoods and where bicycle infrastructure is not present and much greater at intersections than along segments. This study validates the use of GPS data as a new and reliable source of bicycle flow estimation, useful in a variety of safety analyses carried out at the entire urban network level.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"su-divider su-divider-style-default\" style=\"margin:15px 0;border-width:1px;border-color:#ccc\"><\/div>Auteur(s) : Jillian Strauss, Ph.D. (Candidate), Luis F. Trois types de donn\u00e9es sont requises : 1) localisation des blessures (\u201cg\u00e9ocod\u00e9es\u201d selon le lieu d\u2019accident); 2) caract\u00e9ristiques de l\u2019environnement b\u00e2ti, incluant la g\u00e9om\u00e9trie routi\u00e8re; 3) mesures d\u2019exposition, i.e. les volumes de v\u00e9hicules et de cyclistes. Les volumes de cyclistes sur le r\u00e9seau routier et les voies cyclables sont une composante essentielle du calcul des taux de cyclistes bless\u00e9s. Les volumes de cyclistes sont requis pour identifier les routes et les corridors ayant un risque \u00e9lev\u00e9 de blessures ou un fort achalandage de cyclistes, et pour implanter les infrastructures cyclistes appropri\u00e9es. Cette \u00e9tude vise principalement \u00e0 estimer et cartographier les volumes de cyclistes et les taux de blessures pour les cyclistes sur l\u2019ensemble du r\u00e9seau routier de l\u2019\u00eele de Montr\u00e9al (tron\u00e7ons routiers et intersections), en combinant les traces GPS de t\u00e9l\u00e9phones \u201cintelligents\u201d et des comptages cyclistes (manuels &amp; automatiques, de courte et longue dur\u00e9es), et \u00e0 valider l\u2019utilisation de donn\u00e9es GPS comme source potentielle de donn\u00e9es pour les volumes d\u2019exposition cyclistes. Des m\u00e9thodes d\u2019analyse bay\u00e9siennes sont appliqu\u00e9es aux donn\u00e9es GPS pour cartographier le risque de blessures pour l\u2019ensemble du r\u00e9seau routier montr\u00e9alais. Parmi les principaux r\u00e9sultats, on note que le risque de blessures le plus \u00e9lev\u00e9 est en p\u00e9riph\u00e9rie des quartiers centraux et aux endroits sans infrastructures cyclables, et qu\u2019il est aussi plus \u00e9lev\u00e9 aux intersections que sur les tron\u00e7ons routiers.
