This study uses an extensive inventory of signalized and non-signalized intersections on the island of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, containing disaggregate motor-vehicle, cyclist and pedestrian flows, injury data, geometric design, traffic control and built environment characteristics in the vicinity of each intersection. Bayesian multivariate Poisson models are used to analyze the injury and traffic flow outcomes and to develop safety performance functions for each mode at both facilities. After model calibration, contributing injury frequency factors are identified. Injury frequency and injury risk measures are then generated to carry out a comparative study to identify which mode is at greatest risk at intersections in Montreal. Among other results, this study identified the significant effect that motor-vehicle traffic imposes on cyclist and pedestrian injury occurrence. Motor-vehicle traffic is the main risk determinant for all injury and intersection types. This highlights the need for safety improvements for cyclists and pedestrians who are, on average, at 14 and 12 times greater risk than motorists, respectively, at signalized intersections. Aside from exposure measures, this work also identifies some geometric design and built environment characteristics affecting injury occurrence for cyclists, pedestrians and motorvehicle occupants.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"su-divider su-divider-style-default\" style=\"margin:15px 0;border-width:1px;border-color:#ccc\"><\/div>Auteur(s) : Jillian Strauss, Luis F. Des mod\u00e8les d\u2019analyse bay\u00e9sienne, multivari\u00e9s, ont \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9velopp\u00e9s pour d\u00e9crire les facteurs associ\u00e9s aux volumes d\u2019exposition et au nombre de bless\u00e9s, ainsi que pour d\u00e9velopper des \u00ab safety performance functions \u00bb pour chacun des modes de transport, aux intersections signalis\u00e9es et non signalis\u00e9es. Ensuite, le nombre de bless\u00e9s et le risque de blessures aux intersections ont \u00e9t\u00e9 estim\u00e9s et compar\u00e9s pour chacun des modes de transport. Parmi les principaux r\u00e9sultats, cette recherche a permis de quantifier l\u2019effet, significatif, du volume de v\u00e9hicules sur le nombre de pi\u00e9tons et de cyclistes bless\u00e9s. Le volume de v\u00e9hicule est le principal d\u00e9terminant du risque de blessures, pour tous les usagers de la route, aux intersections signalis\u00e9es et non signalis\u00e9es. Par ailleurs, les r\u00e9sultats soulignent la pertinence de r\u00e9duire le risque de blessure pour les cyclistes et les pi\u00e9tons, qui est respectivement 14 et 12 fois plus \u00e9lev\u00e9 que pour les occupants de v\u00e9hicules, aux intersections signalis\u00e9es.
