Paradoxalement, ces r\u00e9glementations encouragent souvent les constructeurs automobiles \u00e0 produire des v\u00e9hicules plus grands, ce qui pose des probl\u00e8mes de s\u00e9curit\u00e9, notamment en ce qui concerne les angles morts. Cette tendance suscite des inqui\u00e9tudes, car le nombre de pi\u00e9tons et de cyclistes tu\u00e9s augmente. Les contre-mesures actuelles, comme les r\u00e9troviseurs et les cam\u00e9ras, offrent des solutions partielles, mais elles ne r\u00e8glent pas le probl\u00e8me central de la visibilit\u00e9 directe r\u00e9duite des conducteurs en raison de la taille des v\u00e9hicules. Transports Canada explore des solutions innovantes pour les usagers vuln\u00e9rables de la route (UVR) en proc\u00e9dant \u00e0 des essais avanc\u00e9s de syst\u00e8mes de d\u00e9tection des pi\u00e9tons et en mesurant les angles morts, afin de r\u00e9duire les risques pour les pi\u00e9tons et les cyclistes. Les recherches en cours de Transports Canada visent \u00e0 quantifier les risques, \u00e0 informer les fabricants et \u00e0 \u00e9duquer le public sur les risques li\u00e9s aux angles morts \u00e0 l\u2019aide de donn\u00e9es factuelles.
