Abstract

A mesenteric avulsion is a traumatic tearing of the intestine’s root. It is a serious injury occurring during blunt abdominal trauma with high energy. Seat belt car restraint has been described as associated with a more frequent occurrence of these lesions. However, there is no study reproducing the mechanical behavior of the mesentery and intestine during decelerations. We therefore conducted an experimental study on animals to determine their tolerance and failure mode during tensile tests.
