Partner News – ITE Canada

As we enter the final year of CARSP and ITE Canada’s partnership agreement, we are pleased to continue collaboration and information sharing between the two organizations.

Roadway safety is a major priority for ITE International and the organization has released its Safety Roadmap and Action Plan (2025-2027), an initiative aiming to achieve zero road fatalities through collaborative and collective action. With actionable strategies and a focus on equity, innovation, and collaboration, this roadmap will guide ITE’s development and dissemination of resources, services, and tools to foster a cultural shift and drive meaningful change in service of safer transportation systems. Identified initiatives fall under five headings:

  • Student Engagement
  • Professional Development
  • ITE Initiatives
  • Technical Resources
  • Partnerships

We invite you to learn more about the planned actions and find out how you can get involved in the development of these resources and services:  ite.org/about-ite/safety-roadmap/

Safety will also feature prominently in ITE Canada’s first-ever Virtual Technical Symposium. Held over two half-days on February 5 and 6, 2025, the symposium will provide access to curated content on emergency planning, functional planning design, traffic and multimodal analysis, and safety. The final session may be of particular interest to CARSP members as it will showcase the development of high-level safety strategies that municipalities have undertaken to create safer streets for their constituents. The initiatives that will be highlighted range from new strategies that have begun to chart the course for the implementation of the Safe System Approach, to those that have been working at this for decades and are fine-tuning their programs and processes. We invite you to learn more and register by February 4 at itecanada.org/2025-virtual-technical-symposium.

CARSP members may also be interested in our training on Transportation and Affordability: Planning Complete Networks to Reduce Auto-Dependence presented by Matt Pinder, Narayan Donaldson, and Arianne Robillard of Mobycon. This half-day virtual workshop features hands-on exercises to help transportation professionals understand the role they can play in addressing the housing crisis, what “car-lite” communities look like, and how to design and implement complete networks for new and intensifying communities. If you missed the first session on January 23rd, you can read an article previewing the workshop at itecanada.org/tt and watch for future workshops to be offered at itecanada.org/training.

Our 2025 Annual Conference in Halifax is shaping up to be a not-to-be-missed event and interest is high with 170 abstracts submitted. The program, centred on the conference theme—Complete Communities: Integrating Transportation and Land Use Planning, will include many safety-related presentations in addition to two dedicated sessions on the topic. One of these will feature CARSP President Valerie Smith in a discussion panel on Vision Zero moderated by ITE Canada President Pedram Izadpanah. Registration will open by early February and we invite you to save the date (June 1-4, 2025) and plan to join us in beautiful Nova Scotia. We also invite any industry-leading companies interested in connecting with decision-makers and practitioners from across Canada at our conference to claim a sponsorship or trade show booth. Find all the details at conference.itecanada.org.

Our parent organization, ITE International, also offers a wide array of road safety-related resources including:

We’d also like to remind you that the deadline to apply for the June 2025 Road Safety Professional (RSP) Certification exams is March 20, 2025.

ITE Canada continues to invite CARSP members to take advantage of the Road Safety for Canadian Practitioners Online Training Program, which we jointly offer with TAC. This on-demand, self-directed program includes five modules that can be purchased as a discounted bundle or separately.

Finally, we invite you to check out an ITE Section event in your region to connect with local transportation professionals. Find ITE near you at itecanada.org/sections.
