To support this commitment, ICBC’s Road Safety team is expanding. We are currently seeking an Indigenous Road Safety Engineer to help lead this important work. Ideally, this individual will be an experienced engineer of Indigenous heritage, bringing both lived experience and expertise in designing and implementing road safety programs that support Indigenous communities.
This role involves collaboration with governments, road authorities, industry, and other safety partners to proactively address road risks. Candidates will lead road safety initiatives, identify problems, develop solutions, and support implementation of road safety improvements across B.C.
Position Requirements

Professional designation in Engineering and registration (or eligibility) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC)

Minimum 5 years of experience in Transportation Engineering, with at least 3 years in Road Safety Engineering

Strong understanding of:

Transportation and municipal traffic engineering principles

Road Safety Engineering strategies and programming, including education and enforcement linkages

Project management practices and emerging trends in road safety

Prior experience supporting Indigenous communities through Road Safety Engineering

Deep respect for and understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and issues

Ability to build meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities

Self-starter, capable of working independently and within high-functioning teams

Willingness and ability to travel to remote regions across B.C.

Valid Class 5 driver’s license
Work Arrangements
Mobile – This role requires a flexible work approach, involving fieldwork, office time, and remote work options within British Columbia.
Travel – Frequent travel to remote and Indigenous communities is essential to engage stakeholders and understand local road safety needs.
