CARSP & ITE Canada Summer 2024 Partnership Update

At the joint CARSP/ITE Canada Conference in Winnipeg in June 2023, the organizations announced the start of a partnership agreement, to the end of 2025. The partnership was established to enable our two organizations to work more closely together on matters of mutual interest. 

In the first full year of the partnership, the organizations delivered the following items:

  • A joint webinar on Building Capacity/é for Sustainable Transportation in December 2023
  • A joint session at each’s annual conference in 2025:
    • ITE Canada Conference session entitled Vision Zero: A Journey of a Lifetime
    • CARSP Conference session entitled Equity in Transportation Planning
  • Representation of the President of each organization at the other’s conference, including speaking at the above panel sessions
  • Reciprocal promotion of each other's events and conferences, with a focus on areas of common interest

For Year 2 of the agreement, the above activities will continue, and additionally the following opportunities will be explored:

  • The start of conversations regarding potential joint student initiatives at the local level, for example, through Student Chapters
  • Possible collaborations with mentorship programs
  • Possible joint training opportunities

We hope that our members have benefitted from this partnership, through increase communications, expanded learning, and networking opportunities.

ITE Canada continues to support a strong partnership with CARSP. At our 2024 Annual Conference, ITE Canada President Pedram Izadpanah organized a Vision Zero panel discussion featuring CARSP President Valerie Smith, Parachute; CARSP Board Member Todd Snooks, York Regional Police; and Adam St. Amant from the City of Lethbridge. It was a very well-attended session presenting a range of perspectives and feedback was positive with many expressing a desire for more conversations like this in the future.

Our Hamilton 2024 Annual Conference was a great success with over 500 delegates, speakers, sponsors, and exhibitors connecting to share ideas and move the transportation profession forward. Find our conference recap and photo album here or browse the program here.

Save the date for ITE Canada’s 2025 Annual Conference which will take place in Halifax, Nova Scotia on June 1-4. The theme is COMPLETE COMMUNITIES - Integrating Transportation and Land Use Planning. Watch for the Call for Abstracts and Sponsor/Exhibitor applications opening this fall to be announced via our email list and social media accounts.

Also coming this fall will be a joint webinar to be hosted by ITE Canada and offered to CARSP members featuring ITE Canada’s 2024 Stan Teply Outstanding Technical Project Award winner: the Design Guide for Bus Stops Adjacent to Cycling Infrastructure (Project Partners: TransLink, B.C. Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure, Urban Systems, Toole Design Group, EAP Consulting, and Universal Access Design). To be presented by Brian Patterson of Urban Systems, the webinar will dive into the details of this first-of-its-kind design guide that addresses significant knowledge gaps in the profession. ITE Canada also invites CARSP members to register for the Road Safety for Canadian Practitioners Online Training Program on which we are a key partner with TAC. This on-demand, self-directed program includes five modules that can be purchased as a discounted bundle or separately.
