ITE Update Summer 2026

ITE International and ITE Canada District continue to prioritize and highlight road safety in our initiatives.

ITE Canada District was proud to host over 650 delegates, speakers, exhibitors, sponsors, and volunteers in Victoria, British Columbia at the ITE Canada 2026 Annual Conference from May 31 - June 3, 2026. Several road-safety related sessions and presentations were offered. We invite you to read our event recap, browse the photo album, or check out the program.

For our next conference, save the date for the Joint ITE International and ITE Canada District Annual Meeting on July 25–28, 2027 in Calgary, Alberta. Keep an eye out for more information on social media and on the ITE International website at www.iteannualmeeting.org. We look forward to connecting and networking with transportation professionals from across North America and beyond as we explore Calgary’s unique attractions.

ITE Canada has hosted three successful training programs so far in 2026, with more still to come! Two workshops on Geometric Design: Fundamentals and Emerging Practices in Urban Street Design took place in February and June, which covered emerging topics such as low-speed streets, self-enforcing streets, multimodal roundabouts, and protected intersections for urban contexts. In May we had a workshop that covered Engaging with Confidence: Essential Prep and Strategies for Successful Engagement with a focus on public speaking strategies and structured approaches to prepare for community engagements. Look out for future professional development opportunities, including our next Geometric Design workshop to be scheduled early fall. Be sure to check itecanada.org/training for information on the workshops, as well as discounted rates for ITE members, young members, and students and Professional Development Hours/Credits certificates.

In other upcoming news, watch for a Request for Proposals for new training courses to be offered in 2027. ITE Canada is also planning to host another Virtual Technical Symposium in late 2026 after the great success of our 2025 Symposium. Information about both of these opportunities will be shared via ITE Canada website, mailing list, and social media pages.

As always, we encourage you to check out the wide array of professional development resources from ITE International including:

  • Many informational reports, quick bites, and other frequently released resources at ite.org/technical-resources/resources. Take a look at publications such as The Utility of Measuring Kinetic Energy in Evaluating Roadway Safety Risks released in June 2026, Safe for Whom? Vehicles as the Overlooked Variable in Safe System Implementation from April 2026, or Synergy Between Vision Zero and Safe Routes to School from January 2026.
  • ITE Learning Hub - on-demand courses and webinars, free for ITE members. There are often safety-related offerings such as a recent webinar on Road Traffic Injuries and Deaths - A Global Problem.
  • ingITE is a non-technical career skills training program aimed at delivering management topics tailored specifically for transportation professionals. A new module on Effective Meetings  is available, free for ITE members and available for non-members at a fee.

The Road Safety for Canadian Practitioners Online Training Program which ITE Canada jointly offers with TAC is now available in French: Sécurité routière pour les professionnels canadiens. This on-demand, self-directed program includes five modules that can be purchased as a discounted bundle or separately. Find both the French and English versions at the TAC website links above.

Finally, we invite you to check out an ITE Section event in your region to connect with local transportation professionals. Find ITE near you at itecanada.org/sections.
