YPC Update – Summer 2026
I am incredibly excited and honored to share that I am stepping into the role of Chair for the CARSP Young Professionals Committee (YPC). I have been part of the YPC for two years, and in that time, I have had the opportunity to meet and work alongside so many incredible people - from students and young professionals to established researchers, industry experts, government, police, and RCMP. This community has given me so many opportunities to learn, grow, and connect with others who are passionate about road safety, and I am incredibly humbled to help lead our shared goal forward.
I want to recognize Dr. Robert Colonna, our outgoing Chair, for the exceptional work he has done to build and strengthen the YPC. I will continue the momentum he has created and continue to look for new ways to expand our events, initiatives, and opportunities for students and young professionals across Canada.
My goal for the YPC is to build a community where women and gender minorities feel welcome, supported, and empowered to grow in road safety. To support this goal, I've recently joined the LeadHERS in Road Safety and BuildHERS working groups, which are built by women and allies, for women and allies. There are so many incredible people in our field who have the talent, passion, and expertise to make a difference, but who may not always get the opportunity or platform to do so. I want to help change that.
I am excited for what is ahead and for the opportunity to continue building an inclusive YPC that creates meaningful opportunities for the next generation of road safety professionals. If you are a young professional or student interested in getting more involved in road safety, I would love to connect. There is so much work to do, and I am excited to do it together!
All the best,
Dr. Mackenzie McKeown, incoming Chair for the YPC
